Street Play on Gender based violence casts a spell

Lucknow: In an effort to promote awareness and dialogue on key social issues, Gender Sensitization cell of University of Lucknow with Adamya, the street theatre awareness organization conducted an insightful event “Tarang” on the theme “Psychology Behind Gender Base Violence”.on 9 October 2024. The event was held at the Tagore Lawn of University of Lucknow, witnessing enthusiastic participation from various student’ societies namely Kavyom and debating society of University of Lucknow.

The event commenced with a heart throbbing nukkad natak performance by Adamya in which Narendra Pathak, Parisha Singh, Umme Habiba, Ashish Singh, Tanushree , Shreya, Anushka, Vishal, Khushi, Pranjal, Shobhit, Shlok attempted to invoke the thought processes of the audience on the impact of violence on women through their powerful performance on eve teasing and sexual assault.

This was followed by an interactive session by Kaavyom society in which poetry recitation was done by Prashant, Manas, Vaishali recited poetry and monoact performances on Impact of patriarchy on women and how does patriarchy shapes males thought processes.

Utkarsh from Team Praan spoke on gender stereotypes and gender roles . The next event was a discussion panel by the LU Debate Society in which Uzair Khan, Mohd Ibaad, Shiva interacted with students on various gender issues.

Participants also shared their personal experiences throwing light on the societal pressure to conform to gender roles and how challenging it gets to shape their personalities outside of the societal expectations.

The event highlighted commitment of the youth of the University towards fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for all.

The Gender Sensitization Cell has been the brain child of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai , and the cell is continuously engaged in conducting activities in the campus to sensitize the students on important issues like domestic violence, respecting all Genders, women safety, mental health of women, menstrual health of women, eve teasing etc said Prof. Roli Misra , the convenor of Gender Sensitization Cell.

As the event concluded, many attendees expressed a renewed sense of responsibility to challenge stereotypes and promote gender equality in their daily lives.
